Hi everybody,
I’m always a little sad when summer comes to an end in North Saanich and we begin to look forward to another Fall and Winter. That’s why I
try to end my summer season with one of my favourite classes. This year, it will be my “Floating Market Flavours” class, which I will host next Saturday, August 27, at 2:30 p.m.
This is a very interesting class, with a variety of dishes reflecting the important role of seafood in Thai cooking. It also honours the role that floating markets have played in the history of Bangkok after the city was founded in 1782, when canals were the major form
of transportation and people shopped by boat, purchasing from sellers who sold their wares from the canal banks.
Canals are not quite so important today, as the city has developed over time and most people travel by car or bus. Nonetheless, several canals and floating markets still survive and we always take time during our visits to Thailand for “A Ride on the Water,” on one of the many canal boats that serve the city. It is always fun, as the high-powered boats speed along
through the inner city, with water sometimes splashing over the side and people hopping in and out of the boat at every stop.
If you ever visit Thailand, make sure you don’t miss this unique opportunity to see Bangkok from a very different perspective.
Anyway, here’s what’s on the menu for next Saturday:
