Top choices to be featured in new Summer class

Greetings from Thailand!

For the first weeks of our Thai vacation this year we were in Northern Thailand, whizzing around in a minibus with friends and family. It was great fun but exhausting also, as we crossed a mountain range to visit the northern cities of Chiang Mai and Chiang Lai. But the trip was very rewarding and we discovered many wonderful dishes on our journey. 

Oddly, though, it was not in the nighttime streets of Chiang Mai that I found my favourite dish, nor was it street food. It was during the day, at a little art gallery featuring classic Thai paintings and sculptures. There, an old lady prepared a dish that was famous even in my earlier years — Khao Soi Curried Noodles. Today, it is almost a signature dish for the city of Chiang Mai itself and a great favourite of tourists.

I am considering making this dish the highlight of a new class based on other discoveries I made in Chiang Mai and Chian Lai.

Otherwise, we found many great treats along the roadsides of our journey in little food markets and small restaurants. Below are some of them:

Steamed buns were a popular choice for many. .

There were many different fillings inside the fluffy buns.

A Muslim lady demonstrated the fine art of making Rotis, originally an Indian treat, adopted by enthusiastic Thai fans.

This Roti had a banana filling and a chocolate syrup topping. 

Roadside markets were a great way to pick up fresh ingredients.

Crispy pork served with spicy Nam Pik, a famous Chiang Mai delicacy. 

Red Curry fish served with a coconut cream paste and garnished with cilantro and red pepper.

Breakfast appetizers made with coconut milk and flour, flavouied with corn and garnished with green onions.

Kallayanee's Kitchen has always been a wonderful way to meet new people and make new friends. Because of that, we have had many requests from Seniors to host a class just for them where they can enjoy the company of people in their own age range.

This spring we are offering two Seniors Only classes.The first, on March 30, is our Royal Crimson Feast, truly a class fit for a Senior! The second Ginger Beef & Friends, will be hosted on April 13. Both classes will start at 2:30 p.m.

A fresh rose for every Mom who attends the class!

On Sunday, May 12, we will be hosting our Thai Classic Favourites class at 2:30 p.m. Thjs happens to be Mothers Day! So, in honour of the day, we shall be presenting a fresh rose to every Mom who attends the class. However, places are going very quickly for this class. So, if you'd like to honour your Mom, please contact us ASAP to ensure your mother will enjoy a seat at the class.

Time to relax and recharge our spiritual batteries at a beautiful temple in Northern Thailand.

We will be staying at this temple for another week or so before travelling down to Bangkok to research more exciting recipes.
