After a Wonderful Break We Leave The Thai Temple Behind

In this beautiful temple we have spent nearly three weeks refreshing our minds and hearts for the New Year.

Hi everybody,

We are now entering the last few weeks of our holidays after our visit to the Buddhist temple near my Mom's village a few miles away. Next, we shall resume our search for the best Street Foods we can find. 

First, we shall tour the city of Khon Khaen, about an hour away, and sample the offerings there. Later, friends will be joining us for the long journey to Bangkok, where there is an even greater variety of delicious foods we shall try. 

This building is a memorial tribute to the founder of the temple, Lumpoo Pan, who built the temple in the early 1980s.

This poster honours Ajan Nung, who took over the temple after Lumpoo Pan's passing in 2024. Sadly, Ajan Nung had also passed away since our last visit five years ago.

These are the "working buildings" of the temple. The building on the right is the kitchen. To the left is where the temple monks had their breakfast and chanted every morning to a gathering of the faithful from a nearby village.

Every morning, I helped out in the kitchen. In this photo, I am shown with the head nun of the temple.

Happily, the crocodile Tom Kung, an honoured pet of the temple, was still alive this year enjoying a quiet life at the temple. During our visit five years ago we made a YouTube video of him which you can view by clicking here.

Outside the temple are fields where farmers grow crops of rice and sugar cane, which is one of the most important money crops of this region. Spectacular sunsets are routine.

A few days ago, we received the message below:

"My Daughter and I are interested in taking a cooking class with you.  She is coming to stay with me for 5 weeks while she does a University Work Program.  She is only on the Island between Feb 12 and March 15.  If you have any cancellations for any of your cooking classes could you please contact me."

We later agreed that we can offer a date range from March 7-15 for a private class, if we can find partners to make up at least a minimum class size of 6 people.

Please contact us if you'd like to join them. We will arrange contact with the Mom so you can discuss possible dates and menus for a class.

Also recently, we received another message from one of our American friends, Michael, who lives near Chicago:

"We are looking for a cooking class for ourselves and our 13 year old granddaughter.  Your website looks very enticing.  Our granddaughter is very interested in broadening her cooking skills, as are we, as we all love Thai food."

We think a children's class is a great idea so we are looking for folks who would like to join this class and are announcing this possibility early because Michael is already planing his summer holiday and is considering a trip to our Pacific Northwest. 

So, finally, If you’d like to attend a class, or are interested in our special June children's class, please contact us ASAP by responding to this message. As we are still travelling through Thailand, researching new recipes, we are not available at our usual phone number.
