Hi Everybody,

We are really looking forward to meeting old customers and newcomers to our home tomorrow for the North Saanich Flavour Trails celebration.

Launched in 2007 by the District of North Saanich, the Flavour Trails Program is a celebration of local food production, connecting farmers, businesses, and the community. 
 

We’ve been part of this annual event for several years and it’s always fun to open our home for the many visitors who come to explore our community. It’s also fun — and very rewarding — to watch the delighted expressions on visitors’ faces when they bite into our free samples!

This year, most of our free samples come from our brand-new “Bangkok Street Food Class,” which we shall be hosting this Fall. We are offering two dates for this class and the first, in September, is already full booked. However, there are several places still open for our second class, on Sunday, October 5. Please get in touch with us ASAP, if you’d like to come on that date!

Also on the "sampling menu" Saturday is our special Green Curry made especially for vegetarians. You Veggie Foodies won't want to miss it!

Upcoming Classes in Our Fall Schedule

September 21: Chiang Mai Street Food

Learn how to make popular Thai Steamed Buns at the class.

This is one of our newest classes, introduced this year during our Spring season. It was immediately popular and both dates for the class were packed. 

Steamed buns are one of Thailand’s most popular street foods. Most popular are those with a BBQ pork filling. However, other fillings are also popular, including Red Beans. At the class, you will also learn how to make Creamy Fish in a Coconut Basket, Spicy Pork Twizzlers and Thai Dessert Pancakes.

We only have four places open for this class, to be hosted on Sunday, September 21. Get in touch ASAP if you would like to join the class!

September 28: Thai Imperial Duck Banquet

This is the most popular Premium class that we offer.

Yes, this is a Premium class, which means it costs $5.00 more than our other classes. But it is worth the price, as you will enjoy one of the most delicious Thai dishes that you have ever tasted. We try to offer only the best duck, so we need to ask a little more.

There is a story behind this Duck dish. It all started a few years ago, during one of our vacations in Thailand. I wanted Ry, my husband, to enjoy the very best duck dish I had ever tasted when I still lived in Bangkok.  So, we travelled several miles through the usual crowded traffic to one of the most popular restaurants in the city, famous for miles around for the very best duck.

Nothing had changed. It was still as fabulous as ever! When we returned home, I wanted to make my own variation on this dish and build a new class around it. One of the most important things I did was create a "West Coast Fusion" version, with a sauce based on the wonderful blackberries that grow wild on our property. 

But the duck itself wasn't quite right and I have to admit it was Ry who suggested what was really needed to make our duck even better than the Bangkok version. However, you will only learn Ry's secret ingredient if you come to my class!
