Lucky Lottery Winner Wins Top Premium Class

Our winner is a Sidney resident with a passion for gardens.

Hi Everybody,

I am pleased to announce the winner of our Flavour Trails Lottery Draw which we held on the Flavour Trails on Saturday, August 23. She is Debra Winkler, from Sidney. I think her words speak better about Deb's reaction than any words I could make up. So here they are:

"Dear Kallayanee,

"!OOOH!! This is exciting as my luck for lotteries never seems to line up.  Thank you.

"Thanks to Flavour Trails,  I might not have stumbled upon your amazing kitchen with your authentic flavours. I enjoy my own little garden at Sandown, which is easy to bike to from my home in Sidney.  My husband grows the strawberries and I the other veggies and some flowers.

"Our pup, Rusty, is not so much pup anymore so he gets pulled behind in his own cart.  I’ve always been a fan of lemon grass, lime leaves, galangal and coconut milk  As I haven’t cooked Thai food lately, I think it’s time to expand again and learn some new dishes.  I’ve been charmed by luck.

As the best way to expand her learning about Thai cooking, Deb made the very wise choice of our "Imperial Thai Duck" class on September 28 as her pick of all our classes this fall. It's our top Premium Class. If you'd like to join Deb, you'll find out more about the duck class below. 

Amy picked the winner

Amy is shown only moments before her momentous lottery draw.

I guess by now all of you are familiar with Amy, our Chief Greeter and Customer Satisfaction Guru. She is the cheerful Border Collie who greets everyone arriving at Kallayanee’s Kitchen. Anyway, Amy has taken all of the credit for Deb’s winning lottery ticket. 

Amy says she had a “feeling” which ticket to pick up and she liked the idea of Debra being the one who would win the prize. So, she picked the “right” ticket, she says. I’m not sure how seriously I should take any of this, but I pass it along for your information.

This was my team of A-Listers who made Flavour Trails such a great success!

What a day we had on the Flavour Trails on Saturday, August 23!

We were completely jam-packed in the kitchen and the dining room and, and….Everywhere!

Amy, predictably, said she loved all the people. But that's why we made her Chief Greeter and Customer Satisfaction Guru!

Anyway, all in all, I believe more than 100 people visited us on Saturday. At times, the boat was rocking, so to speak, especially after a Tsunami of 18 Bicyclists swamped the kitchen. Let’s just say that everyone got to know each other very well indeed.

But it was great fun!

I could not have met the challenge of the Flavour Trails had it not been for my faithful team of friends and volunteers I like to call my Dream Team All of them helped me put together, manage and roll up our sleeves for such a great event. Guys, I couldn't have done it without you! That means you: Gary, Tara, Crystal, Yogi, Marcus, Maureen, Marion, Jan and Gayle.

Sunday, September 28: The Duck in All its Imperial Glory

I believe this is the only Thai-West Coast Fusion dish on Vancouver Island.

The Thai Imperial Duck class offers a luxurious spread of delicious dishes that you’ll learn to master — including an intriguing West Coast Blackberry Fusion sauce that any Vancouver Islander can make for free! The feast begins with a comforting Creamy Coconut Soup, followed by savoury Tiger Prawn Money Bags. 

A Grapefruit Salad provides a burst of freshness before the stars of the show appear: the signature Imperial Thai Duck, prepared with a special secret recipe, and accompanied by blackberry sauce. All of which can be enjoyed with the flavorful Royal Thai Noodles. 
The culinary journey concludes with a delightful Agar Fruit Dessert, making for a truly memorable and highly enjoyable Thai culinary experience.

Sunday, October, 26: A Splendidly Unique Royal Chicken

This class offers a luxurious spread of delicious dishes that you’ll learn to master. It starts with healthy Thai Salad Rolls followed by a rich Hot & Sour Smooth Tiger Prawn Soup. The seafood continues with a vibrant Red Yellow Curry, which we make with local Red Snapper when in season. Savoury Mixed Vegetables with Chili Sauce help to round out the flavour palette. 

Finally, and most importantly, you’ll learn to how to make our delectable Royal Crimson Chicken, which will have your friends and family cheering you on for more! The meal will come to an end with a surprise dessert. All of this will make for a truly regal and highly enjoyable Thai culinary experience.
