Hi everybody,
Next Tuesday, I’ll be hosting my Lesson Four class, Samui Island Festival, named in honour of one of my favourite places in Thailand. It’s where my husband and I once celebrated Loi Krathong, a festival that for hundreds of
years has marked the end of Thailand’s rainy season. We didn’t quite make “the end” of the rain, though, and we were drenched by a mighty downfall in the middle of the festivities!
Samui island is a beautiful place, located in the Gulf of Thailand, and famous for its palm-fringed beaches, coconut groves and a luxurious, mountainous rain-forest. However, it’s perhaps best known for a 12-metre tall golden statue named Big Buddha, located at the Wat Phra Yai Temple,
located on a tiny island connected to Samui by a causeway.
Samui is also well known for a splendid array of seafood available from fishing boats at the dock. With friends, we enjoyed a beach barbecue with a fresh catch of fish as the sun gently set into the western ocean. And that barbecue was the inspiration for Tuesday’s class!
