Our Summer Season of Cooking Classes and Events
|
Hi everybody,
Another Kallayanee’s Kitchen season has come and gone. My last scheduled class of the Spring 2018 season, Flavours of the Floating Market, was yesterday. Unfortunately, there just weren't enough people booked in to
justify holding the class.
However, it is important to note that although our official Spring season has ended, Kallayanee’s Kitchen is by no means closed. We are still very much open, with a variety of classes and events coming up this summer.
Here are some to put on your calendar:
1. “Imperial Thai Duck Banquet,” Saturday, June 2, at 2:30 p.m. This is a remarkable, specially-roasted duck dish that I created after a visit to Bangkok where I enjoyed duck at one of the city’s most popular
restaurants.
I was determined to create a roast duck dish that was even more delicious than what I found in Bangkok. Happily, my husband Ry tells me that I succeeded. And many of my students have agreed! Because of the cost of the local duck, this is a premium class at $60 per student, plus GST.
2. “Barbecue Lamb Supreme,” Saturday, June 9, at 2:30 p.m. This class features local lamb, marinated in delicate Thai herbs and spices and gently grilled on the barbecue. Also on the menu is a lamb curry. Companion dishes include
spicy chicken wings in a pepper and cilantro sauce, fruit salad and a very different Thai dish, Hoi Jaw Tod, shown below. Again, because of the cost of local lamb, this is a premium class at $60 per student, plus GST.
If you would like to attend either one of these classes, please get in touch with us ASAP, as places tend to be booked very quickly.
3. Two new Vegetarian Classes. These classes are still under development but I am hoping to introduce them sometime in July for Saturday afternoon classes. Again, please let me know if you would like to attend.
4. This year, on August 17-19, we are participating in the North Saanich Flavour Trails Festival.
We’ll be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day and are planning to offer free samples of our food and tours of our gardens where I grow many of the Thai vegetables, herbs and spices that I use in my classes. We’d love to see you if you’re in the neighbourhood that weekend!
5. On Saturday, August 25, at 2:30 p.m, I will be offering my Curry Class Two, “Hot and Sour.” We have regular customers who visit us every summer
from South Carolina and we try to match them with local students so they can make friends while enjoying learning how to make delicious Thai foods. Please call us if you’d like to join this class!
That’s about it for now but I’m sure there will be much more as we move through the summer months. And don’t worry, we’ll be sure to let you know when we offer a new class, or bring out a new recipe!
Finally, we shall be continuing to offer private Thai
cooking classes throughout the summer. If you’d like to organize your friends or family for a great learning — and eating — experience, we look forward to hearing from you.
PLEASE NOTE: None of these classes or events is sponsored by the Panorama Recreation Centre. You will need to contact us by replying to this message or by phoning 250-656-1227.
Hope to see you
soon!
Sincerely,
Kallayanee
