Hi everybody,

 

Next Tuesday, May 28, I’ll be hosting my “Flavours of the Floating Market” class, at 6:30 p.m. It's one of my favourite classes, and a great favourite for seafood fans.

 

I loved visiting the floating markets in Thailand before I moved permanently to Canada. And, by the way, there are actually five of them in and around Bangkok and not just one. They are each quite different from the others, with different things to offer and lots of intriguing snacks to sample.

 

These markets evolved years ago, when most of the traffic in Bangkok moved by boats in a patchwork of canals within and around the great city. It made sense to locate a market that could be supplied by boats.

 

Anyway, I have always enjoyed visiting these markets and they have supplied many of the inspirations for this class. If you love seafood, this lesson is not to be missed!

 

Here’s what’s on the menu:

A tasty appetizer dish featuring a bacon filler and daikon radishes.

A tangy sour sea- food soup high- lighted by flavours of lemon and lime.

A traditional Thai seafood dish featuring the combined flavours of “three friends”: prawns, mussels and squid.

Kaffir leaves, fresh chillies and tamarind juice make the difference in this delicious seafood dish, which can be made with halibut, cod, or Red Snapper

A delicious rice pudding of traditional Thai sticky rice, toasted coconut and fresh mangoes.

My class next Tuesday will mark the end of my 2019 Spring Season, my most successful season ever for Kallayanee’s Kitchen!

 

I’d like to thank all of our friends and students for helping to turn my dream into an exciting reality over the more than 10 years since we started Kallayanee’s Kitchen. We are looking forward very much to enjoying even more fun in the coming years with all of you!

 

But first.....

 

We will be off to Europe at the end of this month, arriving in London on May 31st. We shall be spending two weeks in the United Kingdom, then another couple of weeks in Holland, with a train trip to Berlin squeezed in somewhere. I am very excited and looking forward to sampling the delicious foods of Great Britain and Europe!
