A few years ago we visited friends in the northern province of Sukhothai and were fortunate enough to witness a marvellous natural sight. We left our friends’ house just after dinner and drove to a special place in the low hills of the province where millions of Thai bats had their home.

 

As evening began to fall, the bats emerged from their cave and soared into the sky, beginning their journey through the night in search of insects in the northern cities of Chiang Mai and Chiang Lai. Their flight was a miracle of grace. They flew  in long, twirling lines, like a swarm of giant, ghostly snakes. I had never seen anything like it, even though I grew up in Thailand.

 

It was a sight I will never forget.

In other news….

Depending on our provincial health situation, it is possible that we will be open for private classes in July. We have already tentatively booked one class for later July and would welcome any other bookings at this time. We will also be open for orders of our famous Thai sauces and condiments.

 

We have also scheduled a tentative Fall Season of Kallayanee’s Kitchen and will confirm when possible with the Panorama Recreation Centre, which has been our sponsor for many years. Stand by to hear more!

 

We have deeply missed all of you and the fun, good food and company that we all shared together. Hopefully, we won’t have to wait much longer for this long period of lockdown to come to an end.
